Japanese E-commerce and online retail group Rakuten has now entered the NFT industry with the launch of its own NFT marketplace. The platform, called Rakuten NFT, will allow users to peer-to-peer buy, sell, and trade digital collectibles.

According to the press release issued Friday, Rakuten NFT also features a “unique, one-stop platform” which allows IP holders to build their own website for issuing and selling NFTs. NFTs featured on the website will focus on key areas like sports and entertainment, including music and anime.

Elaborating on its future plans, the company will seek to offer peer-to-peer issuing and selling of NFTs by 2023 in a bid to further development in the global NFT market. Rakuten NFT will also introduce additional payment methods in the future.

“Rakuten will continue to provide new and exciting entertainment experiences through Rakuten NFT, delivering greater levels of convenience and satisfaction to the widest possible range of users through its services,” the press release read.

Japan is seeing rising popularity of NFTs as major sports in the country have started jumping into NFT sales. Pacific League Marketing, a joint capital investment firm by 6 professional baseball teams, sold an NFT collection of ‘Exciting Moments’ in December 2021, which featured highlights in the history of Pacific League baseball.
