Sturdy Finance hacker offered $100,000

The Sturdy Finance platform tried to return the stolen ETH by offering a reward to the hacker.

Decentralized finance (DeFi) platform Sturdy Finance has offered a $100,000 reward to a protocol cracker. This is stated in her post in “Twitter”.

Sturdy Finance said they were not going to continue to pursue the hacker if he accepted the offer and returned the rest of the money.

“To the hacker: as we have noticed, exploits are not as easy to escape now as they used to be. However, we are willing to offer you $100,000 as a reward and will not pursue you further if you submit [украденные деньги]”, the project team said.

However, it remains unknown whether the hacker accepted the offer of Sturdy Finance.

Hack Sturdy Finance

On June 12, PeckShield analysts reported suspicious manipulations on Sturdy Finance. According to experts, the attackers did not hack the smart contract, but took advantage of the vulnerability to manipulate prices.

In total, the attackers managed to withdraw 442.6 ETH to the Tornado Cash cryptomixer. At the time of the hack, the stolen ETH was valued at $768,000.

Sturdy Finance acknowledged the attack and suspended all trading activity for the duration of the investigation. However, the project team did not provide any details about how the hack occurred and how the attackers manipulated prices on the platform.

Hackers return money for rewards

Recently, many hackers agree to return the money back for rewards. Specifically, on April 4, the Euler Finance team, which faced the biggest hack of the year, was able to recover 90% of the stolen funds by offering a reward to the attacker. Later, the hacker returned all the stolen money – about $ 200 million.

The same thing happened with the Sentiment protocol, which returned $870,000 after the exploit. The Sentiment team attempted to contact the hacker immediately after the exploit and posted a message on the ImmuneFi website offering a reward of around $100,000.

Not all DeFi projects are equally fortunate. For example, the Jimbos Protocol team offered the public an $800,000 reward after an attacker took $7.5 million out of the coffers of the liquidity-owning protocol. However, he ignored the offer. As a result, the project team promised to provide a reward to anyone who could provide information about the hacker.
