Amazon launches NFT marketplace

American e-commerce giant Amazon has announced the launch date of its own NFT marketplace. The long-awaited event will take place on April 24th.

About fifteen collections will be presented on the site, access to them will be available in the Amazon Digital Marketplace tab. Initially, this tab will be available only for residents of the United States, but then the function will be expanded to Europe.

The launch of the Amazon Digital Marketplace was delayed twice due to the collapse of the FTX cryptocurrency exchange, which affected the entire industry. But it seems that unless something else equally tragic happens, the marketplace will still start its work on April 24th. However, it is still unclear whether the platform will accept cryptocurrency payments or only fiat payments using plastic cards will be available to customers.

Amazon plans to sell unique NFT tokens on its platform became known last year. This was announced in an interview with CNBC CEO Andy Jesse (Andy Jassy). He was confident in the growth of the NFT market: “You know, I expect NFTs to continue to grow. Perhaps we are still far from the introduction of cryptocurrencies as a payment mechanism, but I believe that over time there will be more cryptocurrencies. It is possible that Amazon will implement crypto payments.”

The launch of Amazon’s own NFT marketplace indicates that the NFT market is recovering from the long crypto winter of 2022. The market has been growing since the beginning of the year. In February, unique token trading volume reached $2 billion, the highest since May 2022.
