Bing chatbot has been updated

Microsoft has released an update to the Bing chatbot that includes image search, restaurant reservations, history storage, and improved integration with Edge. Also, conversational AI has left the closed testing stage.

The Actions feature allows you to perform a range of tasks without having to navigate between sites. For example, if the search result recommends a restaurant, a chatbot can help you book a table right during the conversation.

The work of the function was also shown on the example of streaming video services. The user can ask the chatbot to play a movie, and Bing will automatically select the desired service and open the site.

Microsoft hasn’t listed all the partners that Actions works with. The company demonstrated the feature’s capabilities using OpenTable for restaurant reservations and Apple TV for movie searches.

In addition, the chatbot has learned to display images and videos directly in the chat window.

“We’re introducing more meaningful and visual responses, including charts and graphs, and updated response formatting,” said Yusuf Mehdi, head of consumer marketing at Microsoft.

Visual Content Search allows you to query photos or videos of objects, animals, places and more, the company said.

Microsoft has also expanded the Bing Image Creator text-based image generator to more than 100 languages, including Russian and Ukrainian.

In addition, the corporation allowed users to store the history of correspondence. Later, the company will integrate chat export tools so that users can share them on social networks or transfer them to documents.

With the advent of history, Edge’s search engine sidebar has received a new feature. When you open a link from a Bing answer, it will automatically move the chat to the sidebar. This allows you to continue asking questions while browsing the site.

Microsoft has announced experiments with personalizing chat sessions, adding context from previous history to new conversations.

According to the announcement, the Edge Compose feature in the sidebar will soon receive improved tone options for text generation, and Edge Mobile will support page context.

Microsoft will also open Bing Chat for third-party plugin developers. The company has yet to announce a timeline for the integration of add-ons, but has spoken about collaborations with OpenTable, Wolfram Alpha, and OpenAI.

Some of the presented novelties are already available. The company promised to share more details at the Build conference, which will be held from May 23 to 25.

The tech giant said in March that Bing passed the 100 million daily active user mark a month after the chatbot integration.

In the same month, Microsoft introduced the Image Creator based on OpenAI DALL-E. The tool has been integrated into Bing and Edge.
