Brazil takes on Binance
Alfredo Gaspar, a member of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies and a member of the parliamentary commission investigating the activities of financial pyramids, demanded that the head of Binance Brazil, Guilherme Haddad, be summoned to testify before the Brazilian parliament, writes RBC Crypto with reference to Portal do Bitcoin.
According to Gaspar, stated in the statement, Haddad should act as a witness in the framework of the investigations that are currently underway in Brazil. In his statement, the deputy noted that the pyramid schemes Ever Operations and Investments and Braiscompany, which are under investigation, used the Binance platform to move their assets.
He also separately noted that regulators around the world are now investigating the activities of the leading crypto exchange. Binance is facing legal challenges in a number of countries such as the US, Brazil, Japan, China, Germany, and the UK due to the company’s “inability to respond to the regulations set in each country,” the MP said.
Due to litigation that began in the United States, the authorities of other countries have paid close attention to Binance. In April, citing a March 27 US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) lawsuit against the crypto exchange, Australian regulator ASIC revoked the license of Binance’s Australian unit. The exchange failed to obtain a license in the Netherlands, left the Canadian market and canceled its registration in Cyprus.
Gaspard’s request to summon Haddad has yet to be supported by other members of the commission. Voting will take place on June 27th.
