Ethereum Becomes Optimism’s Native Token

Team Optimism confirmedthat after the Bedrock update, the ETH coin will work in the ecosystem as a native token. One of the developers wrote about this in an email to CoinDesk.

“ETH is now being treated as a native token for both Ethereum and Optimism networks, rather than an ERC-20 token”

CoinDesk was one of the first to notice the change in blockchain data. More than $550 million worth of ethers were transferred to the network. The Optimism Gateway bridge was used for the transaction, which helps transfer tokens between different networks. This was the second largest ETH transfer in the last 2 weeks. Now the ethers have “settled” on the new address of the smart contract in Optimism.

The transfer of $550 million to ETH took place on the day the Bedrock update was released. This is their step towards SuperChain, an ecosystem that is a network of many mini-blockchains that interact with each other.

A hard fork aims to improve the functionality of the blockchain. It reduces the deposit confirmation time from 10 to 1 minute and reduces the gas fee by 40%.

The Bedrock update also improves proof modularity for its OP Stack, an open source platform for developers. On it, you can create blockchains that are compatible with Optimism. After the upgrade, Optimism became a multi-client ecosystem. Now there will be at least two options for choosing programming languages.
