Hackers withdrew $ 13 million from the Korean crypto exchange Gdac

Another South Korean cryptocurrency exchange has become a victim of hackers.

The administration of the Gdac platform confirmed that the attackers managed to steal about $13 million in several digital currencies over the weekend.

The funds were withdrawn from the hot wallet and sent to an anonymous address on Sunday, Gdac CEO Seunghwan Han said yesterday. Hackers got 60.8 bitcoins, 350 ether, 220,000 USDT and about 10 million WEMIX tokens. The press service of Gdac admitted that the hackers were able to withdraw approximately 23% of the exchange’s reserves.

The trading platform has already begun to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and blockchain companies that track the movement of funds. In parallel, the exchange announced that it will stop accepting deposits and withdrawals of digital currencies in order to protect users’ assets, Khan said.

Gdac did not disclose a timeline for resuming normal operations.

The press service emphasized that withdrawals will be suspended until the safe mode is restored or the withdrawn digital currencies are returned.

A report by Chainalysis last winter said North Korean hackers posed the greatest threat. In 2022, they stole about $1.7 billion in cryptocurrencies.
