The flagship model will drop in price from $1499.99 to $999.99. Quest 2 will be reduced by $70 from $499.99 to $429.99.
The new pricing for the entry-level model, as well as the Quest Pro in the US and Canada, went into effect on March 5th. The cost of the flagship headset in the rest of the world will decrease on March 15th.
Meta Quest Pro was introduced in October 2022, but the high cost of the device made it inaccessible to most consumers. Also, the headset did not have a clear option for professional use.
Probably, the company expects that the lower price will make the device attractive to both audiences.
“Our goal has always been to create hardware that is accessible to as many people as possible so that they can take full advantage of virtual reality,” the company said.
In 2022, the company lost $13.7 billion in the Reality Labs segment. The division generated $727 million in Q4 revenue and $2.16 billion in full-year 2022 revenue, including sales of Quest headsets.
Recall that in December 2022, Meta management reported that half of Reality Labs’ operating expenses go to AR.
In July, the tech giant reorganized its AI division by merging the FAIR research group with Reality Labs.
