According to the Bank of Russia, about 60% of financial pyramid transactions are carried out using digital currencies.
Back in September, the Department for Combating Unfair Practices reminded that such a tool is popular among scammers.
This week, the Central Bank published a report that talks about the growing use of virtual currencies in financial pyramids. Up to 60% of such organizations raise funds in bitcoin and other coins.
In the first half of the year, the Bank of Russia identified more than 2,400 entities, including companies, individual entrepreneurs and organizations whose activities can be attributed to financial pyramids. Compared to January-June 2022, this number increased by 19%, the regulator stressed.
The head of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina periodically reminds that digital currencies are used in criminal schemes.
According to her, the regulator will not allow the legalization of such an instrument on the domestic market as a unit of account.
