The Central Bank of the Russian Federation announced the launch date of the pilot of the digital ruble

From April 1, the Bank of Russia will launch a pilot project for transactions with the digital ruble with the participation of 13 banks. This was announced by the first deputy chairman of the Central Bank Olga Skorobogatova, writes TASS.

At the initial stage, the regulator will start testing transactions between individuals and payments in trade and service enterprises.

“The pilot will run on real operations and users, but is limited to selected clients of 13 banks that have already technically confirmed their readiness,” Skorobogatova said.

She added that ordinary customers will not be able to participate in testing at the first stage, and the regulator after its completion will be able to determine the further scaling of operations with the digital ruble.

The regulator also allowed the use of a digital token backed by gold in international settlements.

Recall that on January 16, the State Duma Council put the bill on the digital ruble on the agenda for consideration in the first reading.

The launch of the Russian CBDC platform prototype took place in January 2022 with the participation of five banks. Together with the regulator, they tested the release of an asset, the opening of digital wallets, as well as transfers between citizens.
