What important updates are still waiting for Ethereum?

Last week, Ethereum developers activated the long-awaited Shapella update, which was a significant milestone in the development of the network. However, this was only one step towards a fully scalable ecosystem: the project roadmap includes several more major upgrades that are currently under development.

Transactions on the Ethereum network will become cheaper, and staking will be more convenient

In the third or fourth quarter of 2023, the Ethereum team will hard fork Cancun and implement EIP-4844. This event will herald a technology called “proto-dunksharding” that will speed up rollups, allow them to efficiently add cheaper data to blocks, and reduce network fees. The blocks will be inaccessible to the EVM and will automatically be deleted after a certain period of time.

Distributed Validator Technology (DVT) is another major milestone in the Ethereum roadmap. Currently, single staking is only available to validators holding 32 or more ETH. Users who do not have that many coins have to turn to third-party platforms. Most sites offering staking services are centralized.

DVT will allow you to pool Ethereum from different addresses in order to access staking. The solution is being developed by Obol Labs, and according to the latest information, it will be deployed before 2024.

The third major milestone is the separation of Proposer and Producer Blocks (PBS). This is a design decision that will prevent block creators from adding transactions in a way that is beneficial to them, and will allow validators to stop competing for MEV and focus on their main task.
