BNB Chain has decided on the approximate date of the hard fork

Next week, the BNB Chain network is planning to hard fork ZhangHeng, which will increase security for users. This is stated on the company’s website. The update is scheduled for July 19, 2023 at 06:00 UTC.

No new BNB tokens will be issued for this upgrade, and two-thirds of all BNB Chain validators will need to upgrade their nodes in order to process blocks after the fork. In the BEP-255 proposal, the developers stated that changes to a user’s balance would be tracked in every block and reconciled to identify issues. In the event of an error, the blockchain will stop generating new blocks.

The GitHub post regarding BEP-255 says:

“While improvements have been made to ensure the security of transactions between blockchains, it is also important to ensure the security of assets on the BNB Chain network.”

To return the blockchain to its normal state, a hard fork and a correction of a verification error are needed.

In June, BNB Chain announced the launch of the opBNB Layer-2 test network, which is based on Optimism and its main goal is to increase transaction speed and reduce fees.
