“This update will follow The Merge and allow validators to withdraw their funds from staking on Beacon Chain back to the execution layer,” the team recalled.
The Shapella hard fork includes changes to the consensus (Capella) and execution (Shanghai) layers, as well as to the Engine API.
In November 2022, to test the upgrade, the developers launched devnet.
In January 2023, they successfully implemented a shadow fork to test the impact of the planned update on the mainnet. In February, the team created the Zhejiang public network to test asset withdrawals from Beacon Chain.
Before upgrading, node operators and validators in Sepolia need to update clients to the latest version published so as not to remain outdated, the developers reminded.
After Sepolia, the hard fork will be tested on the Goerli network and then implemented on the mainnet. This is expected to happen in March.
Recall that only 31% of Ethereum stakers are “in the black” relative to the current market quotes, Binance Research experts calculated.
