FBI raids Jesse Powell’s home
Yesterday, July 6, it was reported that FBI agents raided the home of Kraken co-founder Jesse Powell. His lawyer confirmed the fact that his client is under investigation.
The search took place at Paeull’s home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, in March of this year. Agents seized electronic media, devices, and some other things.
The NYT portal was the first to announce this. The information was then confirmed by Powell’s lawyer Brandon Fox of Jenner & Block. The reason for the search was a statement from the Verge Center for the Arts.
This is a non-profit organization of artists, organized directly by the co-founder of Kraken. According to the statement, Powell gained illegal access to the organization’s accounts, interfered with work and harassed employees online.
The NYT says the FBI has been investigating Jesse “since September at least.” However, no charges were brought against him.
Fox says there is “nothing” in the Verge Center for the Arts statement that says Powell is a bad person. The reasons why he interfered in the work of the organization are still unknown.
A representative of Kraken confirmed the interest of the authorities in the co-founder of the company. However, it was emphasized here that the investigation had nothing to do with the activities of the exchange, and the role of Powell in its work. Recall that Kraken is under the scrutiny of the authorities in the United States. The exchange paid a significant fine for offering staking services. Now she is faced with a claim from the tax service, which requires disclosure of information about users of the platform.
