In February, hackers stole $35.5 million worth of cryptocurrencies, according to calculations by cybersecurity firm PeckShield. Funds were stolen as a result of 209 hacks, 141 of which occurred on February 11, writes RBC Crypto.

$9.2 million – the largest amount that the attackers managed to steal when hacking one project – about 25 MyAlgo crypto wallets on the Algorand blockchain were affected. In second place is the hacking of the Platypus crypto protocol, which took about $9 million on February 16. As a result of the active actions of the Platypus development team and the help of the crypto community, some of the funds have already been returned, and the hackers have been arrested by the French police.

Also in February, $5.1 million was stolen from the Shata Capital cryptocurrency investment project, $3.65 million from the dForce DeFi protocol, and $3 million from the Orion Protocol cryptocurrency liquidity aggregator. Separately, the hacking of the BonqDAO protocol is noted. The hackers tried to steal $120 million in cryptocurrencies, but they only managed to withdraw about $2 million.

According to analysts, the hackers sent part of the stolen funds to the Tornado Cash cryptomixer. PeckShield identified 9 addresses from which 9.3 thousand Ethereum ($15.4 million) and 6 thousand BNB ($1.8 million) were transferred to the anonymization service.

The total amount of stolen funds, $35.5 million, is almost 10 times less than what was stolen in February 2022 ($349.9 million). However, in comparison with January of the current year, the losses increased by 4 times. In the first month of 2023, hackers stole $8.8 million worth of cryptocurrency.
